Jul. 28th, 2006 10:58 amChris ignored the tv, instead re-reading Jack's letter, working on her own response.
"...Several world leaders met in St. Petersburg this morning to discuss future energy supplies."
The television audience was quiet as an image of several world leaders, sitting at a round table, papers in front of them as they talked was flashed on the screen.
This silence was broken by some knowing chuckles as the image changed to that of US President Logan, sitting at a child's table, surrounded by kids and drawing a picture in crayon.
"President Logan was once again relegated to the kiddie table."
Then a peal of laughter moved through the audience when Logan knocked over the small bucket of crayons, glancing around in confusion till the teacher came to help him.
The host chuckled, miming the movement of coloring as he adds, "It's tough staying inside the lines."
And the audience continues laughing, the host waiting patiently till he can move into the next bit.
Chris grabbed the remote and changed the channel, wanting to focus on the letter. The idea of meeting Jack soon had made her feel more alive than she had in some time, excited and nervous all at once.

Dear Jack,
Try not to be too hard on Angie. I know there's no comparison in what you do and what she does but she may not see it that way. Remember being a teenager and thinking the whole world was against you and you were invincible? Besides, she may need someone to talk to and that will be difficult if she thinks you're angry at her. (Having a talk with her boyfriend may not be a bad idea either.)
And I'm sure that by the time you get this letter, things will be better so I'll switch topics now.
I was out of town for work. I went on some business conference over Thanksgiving so Paige could spend the holidays with his family. It wasn't that interesting, the next one will be, though, and I get to go back to D.C. for it. I'm actually looking forward to it, odd as that may sound.
I'd love to see you again. After the holidays works for me, I have enough vacation days saved up to spend a few days there. It would have to be late January/early February though, I have a few business trips right after Christmas. Would we meet somewhere in Toronto or at your house?
Can't wait to see you. If we do go to Rockefeller Center, I know I'll be thinking about you the whole time.
Love,
Chris
