I should get my stuff. She had meant to do that earlier today but kept putting it off, till it got later and later.

She hadn't done much of anything today, had barely been out of her room. It was silly to mope around like this, Chris knew that, but decided to indulge herself for a while. In a day or two, she'd leave her room and go back outside.

It would be easier would be easier when she was back at work, she'd be too busy to get bogged down by memories.

Her sessions with her teacher didn't go well. Kim's been thinking about the note, trying not to worry. Still, part of her hoped he'd be back by now.

'Please let him be safe out there'

She's walking by Chris's room, feeling an odd spark of anger, she knows she's probably not to blame, but still, it's there.

She stops in front of the door and after a moment of hesitation, she knocks.

She's tempted to just ignore the knock but then she realize the person will just keep knocking if she does.

It takes a lot of effort to pull herself out of bed, but she does. At least I look...presentable. Chris opens the door, her face showing little reaction to Kim being on the other side. She just couldn't bother with for effot.

"Hi, Kim."

"Hi, Chris." Her anger vanishes when she sees her expression.

"I...how are you?"

So Kim knows. It was clear to Chris in her expression and tone of voice. She folds her arms and looks at the other woman, wondering what she wants.

"All right," she says in the same dull tone. "You?"

"Okay, but a little worried. Did you get his note?" There's really no reason to specify.

"Yeah, I did," she frowns. "It didn't say much."

She nods slightly, "He couldn't say much."

She glances away for a moment. "I know."

She takes a breath and looks at Chris. "Even if you're...no longer with my dad, you still mean a lot to me."

Chris blinks in surprise. She had never forgotten what Kim had said about Audrey or her father's other girlfriends.

"Thank you," she says with a nod. "You mean a lot to me too, Kim. This situation is ... just new to me." Chris had never been close friends with any of her ex-boyfriends' families.

Or lived with them in the same place.

"Me too," she says after a few moments. "But, you were my friend before you were anything else and I trust you."

She glances down at the floor, "A lot's happened over the last month, hasn't it?"

"Yeah, it has." Chris moves back from the door to let Kim in. "Do you want to come in?"

She looks up and smiles slightly, relieved that she didn't have to ask.

She walks into the room, feeling a little awkward. "Thank you."

Chris closes the door behind them, then perches on the edge of her desk.

"How have you been?"

"Better," she says honestly. "I'm better than I've been in a while."

"That's good to hear," she says, sounding a little surprised.

She hasn't heard about some of the recent changes in Kim's life.

"A lot's happened recently...I can't even begin to explain but...Chris, I can do things, I can make things happen, I..."

"What do you mean?"

[agirllost]

"I...watch," she embraces the Source easier now and a small ball of fire appears over her open palm.

"I..." but the words die off. "How did you do that?"

She smiles slightly, "Magic."

"But...I mean..." She's not sure where to being. "How did you do that? Where did you get those abilities?"

She releases the Source and the fire disappears. "Somehow Chase's powers were transferred to me."

"You don't know how it happened?"

[agirllost]

She folds her arms over her chest. "Someone in the bar just kind of...made it happen."
