geeky_agent: (You killed my father. Prepare to die.)

Betrayed

Honor.

That was something that she had always believed in. She was raised to believe that serving her country was a worthwhile cause. A noble cause.

Her father gave years of his life to his country. She did. Her brother did. They all sacrificed because they believed in something bigger than themselves.

Even though she knew the darker sider of their work, even though she knew the risks she had never thought they would be so cruely betrayed.

Her father was murdered and it was just swept under the rug. No investigation. No trial. No punishment. No retribution.

Just lies.

Her father's sacrifice was never even acknowledged. Her family's pain was forgotten. They were all forgotten. Those responsible - they never paid. They still had their reputations, their freedom, their lives.

For all their talk of justice and integrity - they had never admitted to what they'd done.

Cowards.

"That your father murdered my father?" she says in a dry tone.

Kim nods. "I found out a week or so ago myself. I didn't know."

"It really shocked me. And I'm having a hard time forgiving him. But I have to know...what are you planning to do?"

Chris raises an eyebrow at this.

"What makes you think I'm planning anything?"

'Because I've dreamt about you killing my dad twice now and I'm not so sure it's just a dream...'

"Because I know how I'd feel."

Chris nods in a mock-thoughtful manner.

"Well, I'm not you Kim. Am I?"

"No, no you're not." Kim agrees. "But it doesn't mean that we think so differently."

With a bored look on her face, Chris just nods.

"I mean we've both lost a mother and we both worked in government and we both have a strong sense of duty."

"Are you looking to have a bonding moment here, Kim? Because, to be frank, I'm really not in the mood."

"No, I just wanted to see how you were..."

Kim blinks at her. This is oddly like talking to Tony.

"I just wanted to say that I'm sorry that it happened and I really...I'm just sorry."

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-03-21 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Chris gets up from her chair and opens the door.

"Thanks for your condolences."

Kim turns and leaves. The coldness she felt from Chris that...frightened her.

She turns and walks to her room, suddenly not tired, maybe not wanting to sleep for a long time but unable to think of facing other people.

Chris quietly closes the door behind Kim, keeping her composure till the other woman was out the door.

Alone now, she was aware of the tightness in her chest and her slightly trembling hands.
