Bored

Chris, instead of trying to do stuff while she's sick, is actually being sensible and resting.

The only reason she's being sensible though is her head hurts too much to move around.

But she can't sleep, so she's just lying on the bed and staring into space.

Jack heads over to the bar for another cup of coffee. Not only does the coffee arrive, but along with it comes a tray with a thermos and a large glass of orange juice, along with a tube of some kind of ointment. Accompanying all this was a note, written in that familiar, feminine hand.

Jack,

Could you please take this up to Chris Chappelle?

Thank you,
Bar.

Orange juice, a thermos of what is probably soup...this isn't a good sign.

Placing his coffee on the tray, he picks it up and heads up to Chris's room, balancing the tray in one hand as he knocks on her door.

Chris sits up quickly when she hears the knock and her head throbs.

"Who is it?" She calls, her voice hoarse.

"It's Jack," he calls out, before opening the door a crack; enough that she doesn't have to get enough but not enough to disturb her if she wants to toss on her bathrobe or something. "Bar sent up a few things. Can I come in?"

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I guess you can," she says, an annoyed edge to her voice. She thought the door was locked.

To say she's embarrassed to have Jack see her like this would be an understatement. She tries inconspicuously to smooth her hair and hopes she doesn't look like a complete mess.

He pushes the door open and walks in, kicking it closed with his foot. "Bar sent up some orange juice and what's probably soup." He looks at her critically, his forehead furrowing in concern. "You don't look too good. How are you feeling?"

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Um, thank you. You can put it on the night table, if you want," she says, with a small gesture towards the table. She feels a tad uncomfortable and she's not sure why.

"I'm ok," she coughs. This is followed by an annoyed grimace.

"I think I have the flu."

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
He puts the tray down on her night table and takes him cup of coffee off the tray. "Sure sounds like it. Have you taken anything for it?"

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thera-flu tea-type stuff. I felt better yesterday."

She takes the glass of orange juice off the tray and takes a drink. Her throat always feels dry.

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well if it's the flu, that's about as much as you can do; treat the symptoms."

He's not really thinking of the awkwardness of the situation, just thinking of what needs to be done to help her feel better, so he reaches out and briefly puts the back of his right hand against her forehead. "You feel a little warm. Do you know if there's a thermometer in your medicine cabinet?"

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
A tight, nervous smile when he touches her forehead.

"No. Or there wasn't when I checked. I should have asked when I went downstairs but I assumed I had a fever already so why bother? You think the bar would include complete first aid packets at this point with all the people that get hurt," she laughs slightly and then wills herself to shut up.

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, especially for some of us." He briefly considers checking for a thermometer, but then she didn't feel that warm. Besides, she'd already taken a drink of juice, which would screw up the reading if she took her temperature now.

"When did you start feeling sick?"

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"I woke up yesterday feeling a little under the weather. I felt better as the day went on but then I woke up this morning feeling worse."

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
He gives her a sympathetic smile. "Well you probably just need to ride it out for a couple more days. It's probably just stress." He thinks for a moment. "Does your Dad know you're not feeling well?"

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's what I think." Chris takes another drink of the orange juice.

"No, he doesn't," she says simply.

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you want me to tell him if I see him?" he asks, his tone a little softer.

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-07-07 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
She gives a quick nod. "Sure."

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay. Anyway, I'll let you get some rest. Is there anything else you wanted? Another book or something?" he asks, picking up his coffee cup.

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
"No. Thank you. I tried to read earlier and it made my headache worse."

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
He nods. "Okay. I'm sure if you need anything else, Bar'll have someone bring it up. Mind if I stop by occasionally and see how you're doing?"

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
"That'd be fine," she says with a small smile.

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay," he says, with a small smile in return. "Get some rest. I'll see you later."

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
"I will. Later, Jack."
