Parking only put her a block away from the restaurant and she idly fanned herself with the flyer someone had just handed to her. Maybe she was getting used to the weather or maybe it's that the summers in NYC were hotter but the heat didn't seem so bad.

Out of the corner of her eye, she catches sight of a man just a little taller than her, average build and dark blond hair and she feels her heart stop. Thrown off course, she cranes her neck and follows him a few steps. Chris is almost about to call out to him when he turns.

It's not him.

And she can't help but feel disappointed even though she's been through the similar several times in the past few days. Ever since that unexpected meeting, she can't help but hope she'll run into Jack again. Or that the door to Milliways would appear.

Sighing, she crosses the street and heads towards the restaurant.

She reaches out and touches her friend's hand. "I think we both know how good he is at not talking about things he doesn't want to remember."

She nods slowly. "You're right." And they weren't together, she couldn't expect Jack to tell her.

Didn't make her feel any better though.

Chris picks up her fork and pokes at her salad, silent for a few moments. Finally, she asks, "How's Tony doing?"

"I'm glad that he's okay," she takes another sip of her soda. "I wasn't sure if you two were still speaking."

A pause as she contemplates how many different ways she could put her foot in her mouth in one conversation.

"He's actually doing really well. If you ever get tired of District, we could always use a third partner."

Chris takes a sip of her ice tea and briefly wishes she had asked for something alcoholic.

Ignoring the first comment she smiles at the second. "Be careful. I might take you up on that."

She grins in return, "I wouldn't offer if I wasn't serious. Besides, you'd even out the ratio of men to women. Tony's friend from college is also involved."

"How's the business going?"

"Better than we could have hoped," she smiles. "Sometimes I worry that things are going too well."

And she doesn't tell Tony about her trips to the bar, not sure she wants to burden him with information that he can't use and can't help.

Chris takes a few bites of her salad, nodding along to what Michelle's saying.

"Might as well enjoy it while it lasts." Being back at CTU had reminded her to enjoy the days (or rare weeks) when everything went smoothly. They were sure never to lasted long.

"I'm not so good at that," she says as she reaches for her glass.

"But, lately, Tony and I have been thinking about the future."

She tilts her head slightly. "In general or...?"

"Our future. We're, well, we're attempting -- "

Chris had thought it might be something like that, from the way Michelle said it, but didn't want to seem presumptious.

"Oh," she says quietly, then smiles, "you and Tony would make great parents."

She outright grins and blushes slightly, a rare reaction.

"We were trying in the bar too, but, now I'm going to an actual doctor about it."

It was good to see Michelle happy. "Have you guys thought about names?"

Her grin fades, "We've actually had names picked out for months. Elaine Rose if it's a girl and John David if it's a boy."

When she hears the names, Chris understands why her smile faltered a bit. "Those are good choices."

"Or John Gael, we've not really decided on a middle name yet." She looks into her glass for a moment, "Do you wish we were drinking wine as much as I do?"

Chris looks at her glass, smiling slightly. "We could still order some."

"Do you think that's a good idea?"

"One glass wouldn't hurt," she says with a shrug.

Michelle smiles slightly in return, "I won't tell if you don't."

Chris smiles, raising her hand to flag down the waiter. "Sounds fair to me."

"Do you think I talked about work enough for this to be able to be written off?"

"If we were going to do that I would have suggested a more expensive restaurant."

She laughs, "It's not the food that makes the bill high, it's the alcohol."
