Dear Jack,

I'm glad you had a chance to speak with Kim. I hope she's doing all right. I haven't had a chance to see her, though I have seen Tony and Michelle a few times.

Don't try to impress me with your "winter survival training," Surfer Boy. You grew up in Southern California, I grew up in New York. I've shoveled more snow in one winter than you have in your entire life.

Since you said your schedule is wide open and that you like the Vancouver suggestion, I went and booked a place. It's the Barclay House (www.barclayhouse.com) on the West End of Vancouver. It looks really nice from the photos and it received great reviews from the traveling sites I went to. I booked it for February 6-8, which are weekdays. With Valentine's Day coming up, there was no room open that weekend or the following. But maybe going during the week is a better idea, anyway.

If that works for you then I'll be seeing you in less than three weeks. I can't wait.
