It took a while for Chris to write him again. Work kept her busy and she kept hoping she'd get back to the bar, Jack's letter giving her renewed hope even though months had passed since she'd last been to Milliways.

Work wasn't really the reason it had taken her over three weeks to respond, she knew that. She'd spent a lot of that time wondering how much she should say about her relationship with James, about the episode she saw and what had been happening in her life before the breakup.

Chris wrote a few different versions of the same letter, deciding that she could choose at the last moment which one she wanted to send.

With the three letters laid side-by-side on her coffee table, she knows there's no real choice. There was only so much she was comfortable with saying at the moment even if it does make her feel a little anxious not to get everything out in the open.

Dear Jack, )

She folds it into an envelope and quickly writes Jack Bau-- before she remembers that she's not supposed to be using that name. Crumpling up the envelope, she tosses it into the trash and grabs another, this time addressing it to "Frank Flynn".

For a moment, she wonders if she should give it another day. Communicating through the mail made her a little apprehensive...it would be so easy for someone to intercept the letters and find out about Jack.

That's paranoid. No one would look unless they had a reason to. Their relationship hadn't ever really existed in their world.

She gathers up her bills and heads out the door, feeling of disappointment when it doesn't lead to the bar.
