Chris turned and gave the pile of coats on the bed another look. This room was familiar, it was her parents' bedroom back at their house. The one in Virginia.
But it wasn't her parents' house, not really. Her brother and Jeannie lived here. They were having a party.
She moved towards the bed and lying in something thatlooked like a nest of coats, was a baby. Wide-awake and looking at her with those big blue eyes. Dressed in red footie pajamas, he (Chris knew it was a he) looked to be about nine-months old.
Chris also knew she had to take care of him. She picked him up and held him close, wrapping her coat around him because it was cold outside.
Downstairs, the party seemed to have come to a standstill. The Christmas decorations were still up which was odd to her because it was January and it was hard to concentrate on that line of thought. Everyone was quiet, just watching her, faces blank.
"I should go," she muttered, uncomfortable and remembering something. There was something she needed to think about now, something that was just out of her reach.
Without waiting for a response, she knew there wouldn't be one, she walked out the door.
When she woke up, that dream was still on her mind. With a sinking feeling in her stomach, Chris realized there might be more to the way she'd been feeling than just stress.
