C is for Chris.

C is also for Confused, which Chris is.

She's finished House Findings at CTU, though she breezed through it and would probably need to read it again, and is now onto Veto Power.

Chris isn't sure what's more unsettling. The complete and utter animosity her father and Jack seem to have for each other or the fact that Jack is such an arrogant brute and her father such a snide jerk.

They're almost unrecognizable as the two men she knows.

[OOC: Karen! I thought I should put up an OOM since these two need to talk. She's in Jack's room, probably curled up on the couch.]

Jack comes in from his daily run, panting a bit and taking a long drink from the bottle of water Bar had given him when he came back in. he can't see what Chris is reading, but he can see the expression on her face pretty clearly.

"Hey sweetheart. What are you reading?" he asks as he tries to catch his breath.

"Books about you," she says, holding up the book so he can see the cover.

And something breaks in Jack's brain. "Whuh--books about me? There are books now? Christ."

"They're tie-ins. They're...um...interesting."

He has a feeling he isn't going to like this. "Interesting how?"

"The first one is mostly a report on the Sub-Committee investigation that happened a few years ago. The profiles look pretty accurate. Though they got my dad's college major wrong."

"The Sub-Commitee invest--"

Oh shit. He knows exactly what she's talking about, and the thought of her reading the inquiry into the day of the Presidential Primary isn't a welcome one. "What's the other one?"

"Um, it's about an investigation you did into Greater Nation and some things surrounding that."

Blinking, headtilt, the works.

"Huh? Investigation into who?"

Chris meets your headtilt and raises you a furrowed brow.

"Greater Nation? The white power militia group? There was a Muslim family helping you, the Rafizadehs?"

More blinking.

"I have no clue what you're talking about. Can I see that?" he asks, holding his hand out for the book.

Chris is confused, which is a given at this point, but also hopeful. It would make it much easier on her poor mind if none of this had happened.

She hands Jack the book, "So, it never happened?"

He scans the cover blurb, his forehead furrowing more and more with every sentence.

"Uh...no. None of this sounds familiar. I'm not sure whether I should find that comforting or not."

"Trust me, it's definitely the former."

He groans. "I take it it's not that good."

Chris breaks into a giggle. "The phrase 'primal urges' was used in an unironic fashion."

Another groan. The English major in him is cringing. "Ugh. Okay, I get the picture."

"I said it was interesting," she grins.

"Especially the book's interpretation of you and my father. I don't know how you to would ever be able to work together if you hated each other that much."

Well he's not so sure about that. Though hate might be a little strong. A very little.

"Sweetheart, I'm not sure I want to know."

She grins some more. "I think you two spent more time fighting in that book than doing something about the terrorists."

His look is slightly shifty as he takes a seat on the couch, pulling her feet into his lap. "And this is different from CTU how?"

He's only slightly kidding, really.

She notices the shiftiness but isn't sure what to make of it.

"Well, I didn't spend that much time in LA but back in NY we tried not to insult our coworkers. At least, not to their face."

"Well we didn't either. Mostly." Another shifty look and a long, uncomfortable pause. "I admit...I did once call your dad an S.O.B. over a cellphone. On the day of the CTU bombing and the nuke."

Mostly.

"So, I'm taking it the two of you didn't get along?"

He gives her a wry look. "Not really. We just had different ideas about how things should be done, though usually we just managed to deal wiht the differences to get the job done. Actually, here in the bar is probaly the best we've ever gotten along."
