OOM: Date Night

Chris and Jack step out of the bar, into a cold New York City night.

The first big difference from Milliways? All the noise. The sound of horns from the cars on the street, cops blowing their whistles as they direct traffic and someone down the street playing a violin come together to create their own symphony.

She pulls her wrap a little tighter around her shoulders and looks over at Jack with a smile. "Surprise."

"Again, maybe becase they take up a lot of space on my entertainment unit? Not to mention the books on my bookshelf?"

"I probably should have asked this a long time ago, but you never dressed up as Legolas or whoever to go to a Lord of the Rings premiere, did you?"

Right now, she wouldn't be surprised.

He gives her a good-naturedly exasperated look. "No, I didn't. I didn't even get to go on the opening nights, thanks to work."

"There has to have been at least one movie you were dying to see on opening day."

Chris sighs and rolls her eyes. Then she mumbles, "May'ee one ofthah 'tar War' mo'ees."

"What was that, sweetheart? I don't think I heard you."

"Star Wars, ok?"

He grins. "See? We're even."

Chris rolls her eyes good-naturedly and grins right back. "So are there lots of Lord of the Rings people in the bar? I've only met one of the Star Wars people though I know from Tony that there's more."

"A couple that I know of. Mostly from the Silmarillion," he says.

He really needs to meet some of the LotR folks, though, just so his head can explode.

Chris nods, "Yeah, I think Lee mentioned that to me once."

She has no idea what the Silmarillion is other than it's connected to LoTr.

"Is Gorlim from the Silmarillion?" She crinkles her nose at that thought - it's odd to think of someone she's met as being a fictional character.

"If I remember correctly, yeah. It's been a while since I've read it. At least he knows about the books. There are a few people I've met that don't know they're fictional in another world."

Poor Jack. And here he thinks Ryan told Chris about 24.

Chris gives him a blank look, not sure what Jack's getting at here. Or if he's getting at anything. "I guess so...yeah."

Unfortunately this is when Jack puts it together. "Uh...I take it your Dad didn't tell you."

"In another universe somewhere...there's this show called 24. It's uh...about CTU: L.A."

Chris is very quiet for a few moments, just staring at him and trying to grasp what he is saying over the resounding chorus of WTF?! in her head.

"We're fictional," she squeaks.

"In some other worlds, yes. I probably should have expected it as I've met people that are fictional in our universe."

"Bar gave your Dad some trading cards for the show, and then she gave him a couple episodes some time later."

He looks up at her quizzically. "He never told you about this?"

"No! When was this? What episodes? Was I in them?"

"I'm not sure what ones he saw. And I don't remember seeing you on the cards."
