End of the Road
Chris rested her head against the cool surface of the bath. Her breath still came in shuddering gasps but she had stopped crying for now.

She was scared and she was a little ashamed of this. She has some idea that she should be stronger, calmer about this. She realizes it's irrational, she wouldn't expect this of someone else - at least she hopes she wouldn't - but she does want it from herself.
She remembers earlier, when she thought her mom was here and now she wishes she were here. She wanted her right now more than anyone in the world and it wasn't fair that Saunders was here but her mom wasn't. I miss her so much. I wish she were here.
Chris closed her eyes, sighing.

"Thank you, Jack."

She lies down on her back, under the covers her hands are resting on her stomach. Chris looks up at the ceiling and thinks about all the things she wants to do when this is over.
If I still can...

"Hey. Under the weather?"

"I have the weird flu that's been going around the bar. I don't know if you've heard."

"I'll can give a shot at doing something about it. At the very least, I ought to be able to lower the fever." She holds out a hand. "Want me to?"

It's a spell designed to flush out any foreign bodies in the body, but Nita has her doubts about how well it'll work against whatever magical illness Chris has picked up. As that spell fades away, her words flow into a new one, specifically designed to lower the fever.
A few minutes later, she opens her eyes and sits back to see how well it's worked.

Ew.
But other than that she feels fine.
"Hopefully, these will go away on their own." Or I can find someone to get rid of them.
"Thank you, Nita."

She says a few fast words, and the air around her hands glows for a moment. She turns to Jack and holds out her hands. "Here, give me your hands, I'll sterilize them."
no subject
"Sure. I don't want to spread this to anyone else we know, though considering no one else has come down with it, I think you're past being contagious."

She looks back at Chris. "Let me know how you're feeling later, okay?"
no subject
"Thanks, again for doing this."

She closes the door softly behind her and leans against the wall, waiting.

She certainly looked better, and while he knew she hadn't been cured, it was at least easier to deal with that knowledge when her symptoms weren't a source of concern themselves.
