Chris pushed open the door with her shoulder, keys in her mouth, and her hands full with groceries. All of which were soon dumped on the kitchen counter. For once she was glad this hadn't been the door back to the bar.

Shrugging off her coat, she walked towards the door, closing and locking it. Her shoes are kicked to the corner and she hangs up her coat. One glance at the calendar told her it had been two weeks since she'd last been in Milliways. To weeks and she wasn't sure anymore why she had been so angry with Jack. Yes, his attitude hurt but he had been worried and he had reason to be and her leaving didn't help resolve anything and God she just missed him.

With a sigh she starts unpacking groceries. After living off of Thanksgiving leftovers, it would be nice to have something that didn't include turkey, stuffing or cranberry sauce. Two Thanksgivings and two Christmas seasons and she had started to put on a little weight. It wasn't a lot but it was there. I've been slacking off when it comes to exercise. Hard to juggle her job and work. How do people with families do this?

She had slipped up the other day. She'd been at Ryan and Jeannie's for Thanksgiving, they'd been talking about their parents and she mentioned something her father had said while in the bar. No one had noticed but her. Still, it was scary.

It was so hard not to tell them and even though they'd never have to go through the pain of losing him again they'd also never have all the extra time with him. Time that she took for granted again and again. She felt ashamed of how she had acted last time. When I get back, I should apologize to both of them. Chris knew that she of all people didn't have room to judge or be hurt.

Most of her groceries away, she pulled out the jarred soup and ingredients for a salad. Not in the mood for anything heavy. She missed having her food prepared for her. Chris could cook but found it boring when it was just for herself.

While washing her hands she caught site of the red light on her answering machine blinking. She dried her hands, then reached over and hit "play".

"You have one new message," the machine answered. Then a familiar voice came through and she smiled. "Hey Chris, it's James. I was wondering if you were free on Monday? Some of us from class were going to get together..."
