It was sunny out and Chris sat down underneath the tree for some shade. The cemtary was almost empty, the only sound was the wind rustling the leaves and the music of the chimes.

She didn't visit their graves often, she didn't see the point. They weren't "here" to her anymore than they were in church or at the grocery store.

And she knew they didn't care about this. She had asked her father as much, telling him that there was talk about giving him a burial in Arlington but they had opted to have him buried next to mom. It had been surreal having that conversation with her father and using the past tense.

He told her she had made the right choice and then she had changed the subject.

She missed them both so much. Some days it wasn't as noticeable but other days, it was. Today, it was and not sure what to do with herself, she came here.

Her mother would have been fifty-one today.

Sometimes, Chris would try to imagine what she would look like. In her mind's eye she was always 42, always had shoulder-length, curly dark hair and was usually smiling. Like a photgraph, not as good as the real thing, not as vibrant but all she had.

She hoped they were together. They had loved each other so much, known each other all their lives. Her father had been so lost and lonely when she died. It had been a long time since he'd been that happy again.

Chris sighed and leaned back against the tree.

It was odd and still a little uncomfortable to think about but she did wonder where Elaine would fit into this, when it came to the afterlife beyond here and beyond Milliways. There was a time, though she wasn't proud to admit it, when Chris would have simply decided "she doesn't" and be done with it.

But, it wasn't that simple anymore. Her father and Elaine had loved each other, lived together and Elaine wore a ring. She may not be his wife in any legal sense but Chris knew that meant very little really.

It had been difficult at first to accept their relationship but eventually she did. Elaine cared about him, cared about here and only wanted their happiness. And, it had taken time, but Chris cared for Elaine as well and only wanted her to be happy and Elaine had seem happiest with her father.

She shook her head. There was no point in thinking about this, she wasn't going to find an answer anytime soon. Chris closed her eyes and tilted her face up, feeling warmth of the sunshine on her face.
