Chris leaned against a tree and took a moment to catch her breath. She unzipped her pullover and tied it around her waist, the cool air on her skin causing goosebumps.
'Come lie down with me. I want to look at you, I feel like I haven't seen you in ages.'
She closes her eyes, trying to push the memory from her mind. She holds her head in her hands, pushes her hair away from her face and takes a deep breath. She starts walking back towards the bar, now too tired to run.
"You sure you're all right?"
Her dad had been worried about her when he found out about the switch. He had't believed her when she told him she was fine, she wasn't sure she believed it either.
You are fine. Nothing happened.
Nothing to worry anyone else about, anyway.
If she didn't think about it, she was all right. She could ignore the feeling of unease like her skin trying to crawl away when she remembered him touching her. She could ignore the feeling of humiliation when she thinks about what Ramon's goal had been that night and how close he'd been.
Lying on Jack's bed with him, kissing, his hands on her...
But she didn't have to think about that, she resolved as she reached the bar door. It happened, it wasn't as bad as it could have been, Jack's ok, everyone's ok, just be grateful for that and move on.
