It had taken more than an hour for the bleeding to stop.
She had woken up alone in the room. Chris remembers hearing the door close and assumes her father stepped out for a moment. But that wasn't what was bothering her.
It was the taste of blood in her mouth, warm, bitter and metallic. She had hurried to the bathroom and splashed water in her mouth. It wasn't a toothache, neither her gums or her teeth hurt but still the blood came.
Chris sat on the cold bathroom floor, holding tissue paper to her mouth as the blood came. Her skin was pinker - red, really - with white blotches. They almost looked like blisters but they didn't hurt.
Cold comfort.
That wasn't all, she soon discovered. She had dropped her head to her hands only to feel two small protrusions just above each temple. Further inspection showed that she had an extra set of ears but not human ones. They looked cat-like.
If she didn't feel like she was trapped in some odd horror movie it might be funny.
What's happening? What went wrong? Why didn't the healing fix this?
