OOM: Date Night

Chris and Jack step out of the bar, into a cold New York City night.

The first big difference from Milliways? All the noise. The sound of horns from the cars on the street, cops blowing their whistles as they direct traffic and someone down the street playing a violin come together to create their own symphony.

She pulls her wrap a little tighter around her shoulders and looks over at Jack with a smile. "Surprise."

He snorts. "Sweetheart, if Freud ever comes into Milliways, I think he'll ahve a lot more things to take up his attention than the opinions of one armchair psychologist."

They near the doors to the auditorum. This time, Chris reaches the door before Jack and opens it for him.

"After a visit to Milliways, I think he'd need some time on the couch."

"Or in a padded room. Though the bar's psychiatrists seem to have adapted well. Though one traps ghosts for a living and the other's dead, so..."

"I think he might be a little out of his league among them," she says, walking down the aisle towards their seats.

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-12-14 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Possibly. He might end up seeing one of them," he says, standing back so Chris can enter their row ahead of him.

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-12-14 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Chris walks ahead of him and takes a seat. "He'd probably find the advances in psychology as interesting as the bar itself."

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-12-14 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
He takes his seat after pulling fof his coat, and is about to reply when the orchestra begins their loud tune-up.

He takes Chris' hand with a glance at her and a grin, and settles back to listen.

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-12-14 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Chris smiles back, giving his hand a squeeze, and settles in to listen to the music.

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-12-14 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
He enjoys the concert; his foot tapping along to the beat of the familiar Christmas carols and songs. The music is beautiful and familiar, and the members of the Canadian Brass fill the segues between pieces with amusing monologues. Definitely a nice way to start off the Christmas season, which is what his birthday usually felt like.

He takes Chris' arm as they merge into the aisle, so that they don't lose each other in the crush of people leaving the auditorium.

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-12-15 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Chris had never heard the Canadian Brass perform before, so she was pleasantly surprised by the amusing asides in-between pieces. She links her arm through his and looks at Jack as the make their way up the aisle.

"So did you like?" She's guessing he had, Chris had noticed him tapping his foot along to some songs.

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-12-15 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes I did, very much. Thank you, sweetheart," he says, putting an arm around her waist.

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-12-16 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Chris moves closer to him in response. “That was the first time I've ever seen the Canadian Brass perform. I think the Jubilate Deo piece was my favorite.”

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-12-16 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
"I liked that one, but I think I enjoyed 'Carol of the Bells' more; it's always been a favourite. So where are we off to now?" he asks as they step back out into the cold, noisy night.

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-12-16 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
"First, to find a cab. And then to the Rockefeller Center, where our hotel is."

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-12-16 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Sounds like a good idea to me," he says in a low voice, leaning down to kiss her.

Oh come on. Like they're going back to the hotel to sleep, really.

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-12-16 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
She kisses back, grinning as she does. "I thought you would like that idea."

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-12-17 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
"And what would have given you that idea?" he asks, teasing, as he raises his arm to flag down a cab. Luckily it doesn't take too long.

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
The cab stops near them and Chris opens the door, smiling at him. "After all those glasses of wine, I figured you would be sleepy."

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
He climbs out of the cab after her, taking her arm. "I didn't have that much wine, sweetheart. Hey, how about we take a little walk first? Seems wrong to be in New York around Christmas and have a hotel near Rockefeller Center without even taking a peek at the Christmas tree."

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Chris takes his arm and climbs out of the cab. She pulls her wrap tighter around her shoulders, the tempature has dropped and it's nearing freezing.

Which is still warm for New York in December.

"Sounds good," she says, despite the cold.

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
He notices her tugging her wrap around her shoulders uncomfortably. Quickly he shrugs out of his coat and wraps it around her shoulders. His suit jacket doesn't offer much protection against the cold, but it's enough.

Taking her arm again, he leads her through the crush of shoppers toward the square.

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Chris smiles at him when he does this and tells him "Thank You." Then, leaning closer to him, arm in his, she asks, "You sure you'll be all right?"

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-12-18 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'll be fine," he says, glancing down at her with a grin, "This isn't half as bad as some of the stuff I did during Special Forces training."

[identity profile] geeky-agent.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
She looks up at him. "Why'd you go into the Special Forces?"

[identity profile] action-antihero.livejournal.com 2005-12-19 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
He shrugs. "I was asked to try out by someone I knew and respected, I wanted the challenge, and I thought it sounded cool." He looks over at her, giving her a wry smile. "I was in my early twenties at the time, so the last reason was probably just as important as the first two."
